About Course

GACRS is offering a Monthly Virtual Adoption Support Group featuring a New Topic each month presented by a trained adoption clinician.  Real Talk is a non-therapeutic conversational experience about issues relevant to adoptive families. It is not presented as a time of therapy; it is for informational purposes only.

Join L. Kathryn Smith, LCSW, RPT in conversation about Vicarious/Secondary Trauma.

  • Vicarious trauma describes the changes we can go through as a result of repeatedly hearing about or caring for someone who has experienced trauma.
  • What are we, as Foster and Adoptive Parents, doing to take care of ourselves?
  •  Let’s discuss our individual experiences and help each other find ways to work through vicarious/ secondary trauma we experience.

It's hard to let go of the hurt that you have in side and can over take them

I feel that there was some redundancy, and it was disappointing that more people didn't have their cameras on to make it more of a personal experience.

I had some difficulty with the post test- kitty bumped it and I dont know what to do now to do what I need (although I did get a good score on the pre-test).. The presenter was awesome! She had a lot of positive energy and it was easy to stay engaged. The information was helpful. There were some new ideas I had not heard before. Good training!! Thank you!
