About Course

Description:

Did you know self-harming behaviors are actually common for children who have experienced trauma?  Self-harming is not a suicide attempt, but it is a cry for help/attention, it is a maladaptive way of coping because it brings temporary relief to their emotional distress.  There is a vicious cycle that happens when a child self-harm.  After the act of self-harm, there is a brief sense of relief immediately followed by feelings of guilt and shame which create more emotional distress and this is how the cycle continues.  This interactive workshop will give parents the skills they need to understand the act of self-harm, how to identify self-harming behaviors, and how to provide support to a child that is self-harming.

Objectives:

1.      Parents will learn about self-harm and the cause of self-harming behaviors.

2.      Parents will learn how to identify self-harming behaviors.

3.      Parents will learn how to support their child(ren) who is self-harming.
