SUMMARY:Webinar: Healthy and Effective Ways To Helping Parents Facilitate Sibling Connection
DESCRIPTION:Sibling bonding is very important; however\, it doesn’t happen automatically with biological siblings\, foster or adoptive children. Approximately two-thirds of children in foster care in the United States have a sibling also in care which could potentially cause a child to feel alone or abandoned in their new home.  Feeling abandoned and alone may create a high level of hesitancy in a child\, making it difficult for them to create a connection with other children in a home.  With that being said\, it’s important for parents to understand that the process of bonding is the same whether it is bonding between biological siblings\, foster siblings\, foster parents and or other family members. \nIn addition\, being related by blood doesn’t mean a bond will automatically happen.  Sibling connections only take place with time and with parents being intentional about creating a safe\, nonjudgmental\, and loving environment.  This webinar will give parents effective tips on how to create a home that facilitates and promotes sibling connection.  The webinar will also give parents the pitfalls of not trusting the process and taking the microwave approach instead of the crock-pot approach. \nPresented by: Natasha LaMarr\, Ed.D\, LPC\, NCC

SUMMARY:Webinar: Attachment Styles
DESCRIPTION:What is Attachment? An attachment is an emotional bond that we form with another person. Attachments are formed in childhood with our primary/first caregivers. These attachments often dictate how we behave in our relationships with others. There are 4 attachment styles that will be discussed during this webinar: Secure attachment\, Anxious attachment\, Avoidant attachment\, and Fearful Avoidant Attachment in which the latter 3 are considered to be insecure attachments. During this webinar\, attendees will not only learn about attachment theory\, but will also get an in depth understanding of the 4 attachment styles. Attendees will also learn strategies to strengthen and improve their attachment/bond with their child(ren) and others. \nPresented by: Natasha Hope-Moriarty\, LMSW

SUMMARY:Virtual Regional Training: Anxiety
DESCRIPTION:Anxiety disorders are common in children (affecting 1 in 8)\, but studies have shown that childhood anxiety has almost doubled since 2020\, affecting at least 20% of children nationwide. For children in the foster care system\, anxiety disorders are even more prevalent and sometimes symptoms are misunderstood as defiance and opposition. Learning the signs and symptoms and being prepared with techniques to manage anxiety better will help bring more relief for you and your child. Growing resilience and strengthening coping skills will help them to face challenges with more confidence and ease. \nPresented by: Jenie Chritstopher\, LPC\, MC \n*Please complete the Pre test priot to attending the training.

SUMMARY:Webianr: Understanding a Child's Trauma and Survival Habits
DESCRIPTION:1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse and/or neglect\, and a child in foster care more than likely has experienced one of these traumas in their lives. The experience of trauma has a lasting effect on the  physiological and mental health\, changing brain chemistry and the release of hormones\, along with the ability to form and maintain relationships with others. Many behaviors can be frustrating for caregivers when a child appears immature for their age\, clingy\, overly-sensitive and even oppositional and angry. The effects of abuse vary from child to child\, but the most common thing we have to start recognizing is a child is doing what they think is best for their survival. Once we start to learn more about how they think and reason regarding their responses to situations and others’ actions\, then we can start to form better ways to approach them in a way that shows acceptance\, kindness and support. \nPresented by: \nJenie Christopher\, MS\, LPC
