Virtual Regional Training: Identity Formations in Adoption
About Course
Having a healthy identity is critical for children and young adults in their overall growth and development, it is even more important for adoptees.
Identity formation for adoptees is a complex process that involves reflecting on their adoption experience and integrating it into a personal narrative. Adoptees must consider what being adopted means to them within their family’s sociocultural context and answer the question “who am I?” in relation to different aspects of life.
This process can be complicated because adoptees may not have easy access to information or people who can answer their questions. It is essential that parents, adults and caretakers realize and recognize these unique challenges.
