Lauren Smith received her law degree from Georgia State University in 1997. She has been a resident of Cherokee County since 1996. Her entire career has focused on the needs of foster families and children. While in law school she volunteered at the Cobb County YWCA Women’s Shelter and served as a Cherokee County CASA. Upon graduation she began working in a SAAG capacity for DFCS in Cherokee, Forsyth, Pickens, Fannin, and Gilmer County. In the early 2000’s she switched her law practice to exclusively representing adoptive families. Over 90% of her practice are foster care/relative placement adoptions in 10+ North Georgia counties.
Lauren’s law practice caters specifically to the needs of adoptive families. All clients receive Lauren’s cell phone number to reach her directly instead of going through a receptionist and she is available outside the standard 9-5 hours. She assists families with Adoption Assistance related issues and offers a foster parent discount and payment plan for those that don’t qualify for Adoption Assistance. Lauren also volunteers her time speaking to various groups about adopting from the foster care system and provides legal training to organizations, including DFCS, on the subject.
