Play Therapy for Thriving Families
About Course
This webinar teaches play therapy and “filial” therapy approaches to adoptive and fostering families. Filial therapy teaches parents the principles of play therapy to enact at home with children, facilitating the development of healthy parent-child attachment. Filial therapy is designed to treat a broad range of presenting problems (i.e., trauma, behavioral disruption, grief and loss, and so on). Parents learn and implement a set of skills that maximize children’s ability to use play to develop, grow and heal from trauma. Through discussion, handouts, and experiential exercises, participants will learn to be “trauma-informed,” take a developmental approach, and use nondirective, imaginative play to empower and support healing for their children.
