About Course

Providing care to children is at times an intense and demanding job. It requires parents to meet the daily demands of running a household, work, personal concerns, and responding to the needs of child/children in their care. Stress is natural and can be inevitable, but stress can take a toll on your health and effectiveness as a parent. Stress doesn’t just effect you, it also impacts the child/children in your care and your family, therefore the importance of self care should be high on your priority list.

Dr. Moss delivered a very powerful presentation that many of us parents and foster parents need to hear and to take care of ourselves. Parental conceptions like Dr. Moss highlighted is that many of us take we can fix everything or all the problems that comes our way. Sometimes we have to tell ourselves that we need timeout (separating ourselves from anything and everything that gets into our way). Also we need "me time". This presentation was one that I personally really need to listen to and to follow the bullet points for self preservation.

Dr Bridget Holyfield Moss presentation was needed to be heard. Many times parents feel that they can fix everything. Parents forget that they are not only parents but they also have careers. Juggling the children, careers, husbands and self can be challenging. Parenting your own children, including children foster children can be very challenging. We want to do right by both our children and the children we brought into our homes. Stress, tension, emotions and communication levels can get high but we have to figure out how to have a balance across the board without losing track of the purpose of helping the children and self. I really enjoyed this class. An eye opener of how parents can forget themselves and how high their stress level can go without ever realizing what you are doing to yourself. Thank you so much for your kind input and allowing me to take a second look at what I am doing with my myself.
