Anxiety Specialists of Atlanta, LLC is a team of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) specialists who pride themselves on offering evidence-based, comprehensive psychological services. Founded by Dr. Josh Spitalnick, Board Certified (ABPP) in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology, our anxiety specialists work closely as a team to learn from each other and share up-to-date findings to ensure consistency and fidelity of best practices. In addition to our treatment services, we offer thorough psychoeducational and psychological evaluations for all ages related to learning, language and executive function concerns. Given our training, dedication to science, and credentials, our team provides various consulting and psychoeducational services to other professionals, organizations, and families who seek information, resources, workshops, parenting seminars, and community presentations throughout the Atlanta community as well at local, regional and national professional conferences.
Our foundation in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) practices aligns with our emphasis in providing evidence-based, short-term, solution focused treatments for a variety of mental health problem areas. We see children, adolescents, and adults for individual, family, and group-based therapy with a primary focus on treating anxiety disorders, including Separation Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Selective Mutism, Phobias, Social Anxiety, Panic Disorder, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. We are also recognized and credentialed Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) specialists, recognized by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). We offer a variety of treatment techniques proven in science to be first line treatment options, but we are most known for offering Exposure therapy (in vivo, imaginal, interoceptive exposures) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for anxiety disorders, OCD and related problem areas.
Given our focus on treating anxiety, we understandably also treat the other most common co-occurring problem areas with anxiety, including depression and mood related issues, eating/feeding problems and body image concerns, problems with executive function, school and occupational struggles, medical disorders and somatic complications, medication and treatment adherence, sexual health and sleep dysregulation, and relationship struggles (e.g, parenting, family, peers, intimate). To address these and other problem areas, each psychologist brings his or her own unique training experiences rooted in science, including the Maudsley Approach or Family-based Treatment (FBT), the gold standard, most effective treatment for children and adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, to name a few.
Our team of anxiety and OCD specialists maintains wonderful working relationships with other psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists, occupational and speech specialists, private and public school systems, primary care providers, and other professionals to ensure that everyone we see is getting the most informed, comprehensive, evidence-based care possible.
Our office is located in beautiful Dunwoody, Georgia (a Northeast suburb of Atlanta) but you will also find us visiting with our patients “offsite” to meet with them in the real world where anxiety and other difficulties commonly arise. We are not your typical therapy practice–we have dogs on staff, we employ virtual reality and other interactive tools to help people overcome life’s struggles, we have scary, funny, and gross props all around our offices to help people overcome their fears with as much realism as possible, and our biggest source of referrals is word of mouth from past patients and their loved ones, not social media nor direct marketing.
