FREE Resource for families with children with disabilities.
Ashley moved to Polk County in 2021 from Coweta County. It was a complete shock that there were limited resources for the special needs population. Where were they? Where were the social events, the activities…the support? Ashley has two kids with autism, and she has multiple sclerosis so she knows how critical the resources & support can be for families like hers are. Something had to be done so she decided to take action.
Ashley has a work history in working with individuals with special needs so she knows how important social events & activities are. They allow individuals with special needs to enhance their social skills and make lifelong friendships. Social groups are important for all types of abilities because it teaches crucial life skills like self-advocacy (asking for help), learning conversational skill, patience, turn taking…the list goes on!
So…why was a social event program that our kiddos would greatly benefit from not already in place that meet on a regular basis? That’s where Ashley and the board members came into place and formed High-Five Society.
Social groups
High-Five Society has monthly social events that we strive to keep free or affordable for everyone. We are the only social group in Polk County that meets on a regular basis for our special friends and their families!
In our social groups we encourage individual interaction so that they can experience and learn crucial peer socialization skills that they will utilize throughout life.
Countless friendships have been formed through High-Five Society’s monthly meet ups and now these friendships will be with these individuals for the rest of their lives and have a positive lasting effect.
parent support
We have had such so many wonderful connections made in our parent support group! Parents can connect, share their experiences, and offer support to one another. It’s been incredibly helpful for parents to have a space where they can open up, seek advice, and exchange resources.

If any parents are looking for personal support, they can ask to be connected with a supporting parent. This one-on-one interaction can provide a more intimate and tailored experience for those who may prefer it.
